India, graduation.. then Africa? what?

I don't believe I've posted about this yet, But I've been accepted into a program called global citizen year! It's like peace corps except it's made for kids who just graduate from high school. I'm planning on going to live in Senegal, Africa for 10 months and I leave in August!
I'll just copy and paste, because the website explains it a lot better than I can.

Our mission is to prepare a new generation of Americans to provide innovative and effective leadership to address the global challenges of the 21st century. To do this we:
  • Recruit a diverse corps of high-potential high school graduates as GCY Fellows;
  • Train our Fellows through intensive programs in the U.S. and abroad;
  • Support our Fellows through apprenticeships in Asia, Africa, and Latin America during a bridge year between high school and college; and
  • Sustain a dynamic network of alumni who remain engaged in global issues during college and beyond.
With our support, GCY Fellows develop empathy, an ethic of service, the ability to communicate across languages and cultures, and a better understanding of the world and their place in it.

This program is honestly my dream come true, and I was SO excited when I figured out that I was accepted.

  1. "My baby is growing up and saving China!"
    or....Africa. Practically the same thing!
    I'm SOOOOO proud of you Kaya! I know that it's your dream come true, but it's a dream come true for GCY because right when they accepted you, they accepted the next Mother Teresa. Even though you aren't a nun. Or even Catholic. But you know what I mean.... I hope :)
